Week 1 - NOW.org

I took a look around the website for NOW.org, or the National Organization for Women, and was immediately interested by how it is arranged. Links on the homepage are organized into 'hot topics' (currently trending articles), 'campaigns and events' (ongoing efforts of NOW and other organizations), 'take action' (opportunities for action) and what may be most relevant to this class, 'issues' including abortion and reproductive rights, Economic Justice, etc. This last section may prove convenient in keeping up with news and events related to issues we discuss in class.
What NOW itself is was unclear to me, so I checked out their mission statement and found them to be a broad-spectrum feminist organization founded in '66, and lists their top priority issues as: advancing reproductive freedom, promoting diversity & ending racism, stopping violence against women, winning lesbian rights, achieving constitutional equality, ensuring economic justice.
NOW actually has a chapter of members based in Corvallis, if anyone is interested!

Great investigation Diana! :) Yes, NOW has some great history in the feminist movement. The organization has done some amazing work and been an advocate for legislation and policy-making in the women's liberation movement for decades. However, it has also faced some serious criticism about it's liberal feminist stance and marginalizing women of color and LGBTQ needs. There has been revamping and it still remains a great organization to continue the fight for justice. I encourage you to google it if you are interested! Also, I really like how you checked out the mission statement and the various topics that the organization addresses. Nice work!
