Transgender Issues

This was a great article that touched on the difficulties that transgendered immigrants encounter when trying to establish citizenship. there are so many things that heterosexual immigrants have to go through, but the fact that these transgendered immigrants do not identify as the accepted sex/orientation, they are discriminated against. the fact that these transgendered immigrants are told to identify as either MALE or FEMALE, advised to get sex reconstructive surgery, and are having to endure victimization under the "misapplied" law is ridiculous...in retrospect, all to become a citizen of a country that will continue to treat them this way. who are we to tell someone to completely change their identity and become a person so vastly different from who they are OR subject them to discrimination and an unjust law based on their sexual orientation? this is a prime example of how America places laws on the bodies of people who are neglected and rejected. America CLAIMS to be the land of "liberty" "peace" and "Justice for all" which is a complete fabricated lie, which has been proven evident by the mistreatment and discrimination that marginalized people face daily. this article outlines how transgendered men and women are continuing to fight for their rights. this is very powerful because i think that as a person who ideitifies as heterosexual, i don't have to fight for my identity to be equal or accepted for that matter, but being that the transgendered population defies the norm in regards to sexual identity they are having to fight for rights they should already have. i think that in order for transgendered peoples to be accepted as "people" and afforded the respect and human rights they deserve we need to dispel all our ethnocentric ideologies, gender and identity phobias and and preconceived notions about the transgendered community and let them live their lives in all its entirety ... i don't see any other way justice can be served...
