LGBTs face immigration hurdles in United States

I read the article called “I read the article called “LGBTs face immigration hurdles in United States”.I did not know much about LGBT immigration. After reading this article it really makes me think and want to react. I have always been a LGBT alliance and always will be, I never heard about this issue. The issues LGBT immigrants face is hard. They aren’t told about the deadlines for the paper work. Than even if they get the paper work in on time, if the state rejects them and sends them back to their home country they now have come out of the “closet” and now have to face their families and friends and their society. Which in most foreign countries a lot of the law can be up to killing them. I have learned a lot about other people immigrating to American for a “better” life but these people are immigrating over so that they can act on their feelings and live freely. Sadly even once they get here depending on the state they choice to be in, its not always welcoming. This faces feminist because this isn’t equal rights. Take for example lesbians might be immigrating over for freedom and equal rights, that is a huge feminist issue. I have also heard horror stories of the women trying to immigrate over and how the men treat them, just imagine being LGBT also/or and having to deal with people not excepting them.

Yes, Nicole, great insight here and I am glad that this site allows us to be exposed to these issues that are not considered mainstream or valid concerns. I think it is really important to address issues of "othering" when we speak of oppression taking on various forms in countries outside of the U.S. You are absolutely right that "homosexuality" (however it is defined depending on location/context/culture) is cause for extreme legal ramifications--often death. But we have to acknowledge what is happening in our own country as well that is actually not so far off from these other countries. Do you see any connections here between the suicides in the LGBTQ community in the U.S. and the legal, violent sanctions against same-sex relationships and partnering outside the U.S.? The media has often referred to gay teen suicides as "bullying" but, in reality, our society that reinforces misogyny, homophobia, and heterosexism creates a culture where the outcome is suicide...killing...death.

Woah-Sorry for the long response but I had to go there! Had to! Let me know if you have any questions too!
