Imagine Our Stories
I am really into this weeks topic, Reproductive Justice. I noticed right away that the two links that we are looking at for this week are right from our course readings, so I really like how the two correlate. I did poke around both sites, but the article that caught my eye came from the Reproductive Justice website. The Future's Stories was told by a woman who put a new perspective on social movements and I thought it was a new and creative way to maybe look at our topic for the week, Reproductive Rights. The author spoke of imagination and it how it is our "heart for the future unseen". She went on to say that if we have a strive for change in any social movement, the kind we have only seen in our imagination, that that may not be enough for a revolution but it is a good start. I like to think of this in terms of our class and what we will be going over throughout the course of the term, especially the topics of this week and with regards to the exercise we did in class this morning. We talked about the issues that surround Reproductive Justice and viewed it through a series of different lens to break down the framework and better understand it. We looked through the lenses of education, identification, and figuring strategies that not only benefits ourselves, but everyone. Just discussing the Reproductive Justice movement and imagining ways that we can go about changing what we do not agree with is just the beginning of our own revolution.

Your course material this week is well-timed with the news story, recently reported by Alternet, that Rick Santorum recently remarked that Prez Obama's "stance on abortion is remarkable for a Black man." I'll post the news article for your critical eye.
Yay--please post Heather! And, welcome to our class blog! Thank you for your comment. :)
Megan, I am glad you enjoyed the activity we did in class! I think the exercise was successful in that it made us really think about realistic things we could do to make change on campus using a reproductive justice lens. Feminism (and RJ) is very much a belief but it is also so much more--it's about what we DO! I wonder if you could attach a link to the article about imagination...? ;) Thanks!
Here is the link to an article about the recent Rick Santorum comment, on Alternet:

Oh Shoot-- Here's the clickable link to the article!
