During Winter quarter, the Women's Center will host a bi-weekly discussion group for women interested in learning about white privilege, racism, and gender oppression.  At the conclusion of this group, participants will:

• Explain how white women are protected from understanding their privilege.
• Understand how institutionalized racist sexism harms women of color while benefiting white women.
• Develop tools and language for interrupting racism and becoming better allies to women of color
• Understand how white identity is formed, how white women benefit from white privilege, and how institutional racism supports the interests of white women
• Explain how the intersections of sexism, classism, ablism, and heterosexism in the lives of white women and women of color further alienates women from each other.

This will be a closed group capped at 15 members, meaning that no new members will be permitted to join after the first meeting.  Participants will read articles or view video clips and prepare questions or comments before each meeting; the specific curriculum and syllabus will be developed in tandem with participants' goals and preferences.  Two facilitators will lead the discussion each week, coach participants as they explore reactions, and help the group resolve conflicts.
