This is the first time I have ever looked at a "feminist" website/blog. I guess someone could say that I live a sheltered life and tend to not look at the bigger picture. I thought the blog that was posted on the opening page of http://crunkfeministcollective.wordpress.com/ was very poetic and well written. I thought it was interesting how the author shed light onto her own actions. It made me think, that people (including myself) who preach of a more "equal" world, than our everyday actions, including language should reflect that. I think that it is quite impressive how she was able to stand up to her friends and acknowledge that their use of to word "gay" in a derogatory context is quite admirable. Personally for me, I don't like conflict with my friends. But at the same time, I agree, that people shouldn't use "gay". I wish I didn't, but sometimes I admit to saying the word too.
I thought that this particular blog also brought ups some interesting points by saying that we compare the norm, we use white and middle class me. Is that the "norm" still?
Another point that the blog mention was the Tragedy in Tucson, there were 6 people killed. Those who have been in the media were the young and rich. It just shows how the media, which is a huge part in our lives, uses ageism to not fully represent the 3 lives that were 76 and above. i bet that they lived a full life, however they do deserve to be mentioned.

You are bringing up some great points in your response Marissa! So much actually...I hope that as you continue to engage with feminism and social justice work, that you not only recognize the small changes that we can make as individuals in our day to day lives (like our use of language!) but I also hope that you may find a sense of liberation or empowerment from doing so. Of course, I say this but also want to recognize how uncomfortable this can be in SO many ways and often times even painful. :( BUT, it is absolutely necessary work to do in order to end misogyny, hate, discrimination, inequality, etc. so I encourage you to keep at it--you have lots of support from your feminist community!! :)
